Summary

The Head Football Strength Coach will be in charge of all aspects in the physical development of the football team. This includes design of the strength, speed, agility and conditioning program for the Texas A&M University-Commerce football team.

Duties & Responsibilities

The Head Football Strength Coach is responsible for the design, organization and implementation of complete strength and conditioning program(s) for the university football program. Instructs athletes in the safe and correct execution of all parameters of resistance training and conditioning exercises in order to obtain the desired results and goals while also ensuring compliance with NCAA and University rules and regulations.

  • Develop and monitor strength, speed, agility and conditioning program for football team
  • Provides instruction in safe and effective spotting procedures to ensure the maximum effect of the exercise and the safety of the athlete. Enforces all rules and regulations to ensure safe programs and facilities.
  • Applies knowledge of human bioenergetics, metabolism, muscle physiology, neurological adaptations and cardiovascular anatomy at rest and in response to exercise to develop appropriate and effective exercise and training programs.
  • Tests and evaluates athlete physical performance by administering and selecting testing procedures that ensure the collection of valid and reliable data. Maintains and evaluates team and individual physical performance evaluations data to determine special needs, appropriate training procedures, and motivational techniques.
  • Designs programs ensuring potential for injury is reduced and the probability of enhanced performance increased
  • Supports the integration of sport nutrition information in sport programs.
  • Maintains adequate records of student-athlete attendance and hours of conditioning to comply with NCAA rules and regulations
  • Administers life support and first-aid procedures to users in needing immediate care.
  • Work and communicate with football coaching staff and other coaches and staff in the athletic department
  • Reports any injuries occurring during team or individual workouts. Examines all injury reports thoroughly. Obtains approval from Athletic Trainer or Physical Therapist for all workouts designed for injured athletes. Ensures all injured athletes remain consistent with rehabilitation and recovery protocols. Complies with recommendations (in writing) of Physician and respective athletic trainer when designing and implementing strength and conditioning programs regarding limitations and rehabilitation status of individual athletes.
  • Assists in general maintenance and supervision of facility.
  • Assist with FASTER (nutrition) station distribution
  • Maintains professional certifications (CSCS or SCCC). Keeps current on NCAA rules and regulations concerning strength and conditioning

Minimum Requirements

  • Education: Bachelor’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education in a related field (i.e. Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, Kinesiology, etc.)
  • Experience/ Knowledge/ Skills: Two (2) years of college strength and conditioning experience as intern, graduate assistant or full time coach. Experience working with a collegiate football program. Experience programming and delivery of strength and power training; speed, agility, movement sessions; and regeneration. Demonstrated knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations. Excellent communication, interpersonal and organizational skills.
  • Ability to: Multi-task and work well as part of a team. Ability to motivate student athletes and work cooperatively with coaches and sports medicine staff. Sensitivity to cultural differences.
  • Licensing/Professional Certifications: Certification by CSCS or SCCC. CPR/AED certified.
  • Physical Requirements: None
  • Other Requirements: Work beyond normal business hours and/or work on weekends.

Preferred Education / Skills/ Experience

  • Education: Master’s degree from an accredited institution of higher education in a related field (i.e. Exercise Science, Exercise Physiology, Kinesiology, etc.)
  • Experience: 5 years of college strength and conditioning experience as intern, graduate assistant or full time coach.
